The Macintosh version of ACEDB was discontinued at version 4.1. Fortunately version 4.1 is database compatible with the more recent versions of the database software and so should work with most databases.
Note: we have not tested BrassicaDB with MacAce, and thus do not know what problems there are. If you wish to use BrassicaDB with MacAce please contact us.
There is, now available, a version of the database software for Windows NT/95/98. This has the advantage of running on the desktop and allowing data preparation for data submissions to BrassicaDB itself. The actual database files are binary compatible across platforms but the cross-link scripts are not. If there is sufficient interest, then alternatives to these scripts may be developed.
Note that the UNIX aceclient / aceserver and the Windows winClient / aceserver are not compatible. However such compatibility is planned and may be available in future releases of WinACE and ACEDB.
A new version of ACEDB is under development which will use an overhauled user interface. This will mean that some of the graphic displays may change. However the changes in the displays should be more portable than before so the ACEDB software should be available for more platforms. Proposed changes to the network interface will also cause problems in the short term but promise to fix some cross platform compatibility problems.
